Signature Witnessing

We verify identity, watch you sign and complete the witness section or notarial certificate your document requires.

About this service

Some documents simply ask for a witness to watch the signer sign, while others require a notarial certificate, such as an acknowledgement or a jurat. Kay’s Notary Travel can help with both. We verify the signer’s identity with a current government-issued photo ID, watch the signature being made, and complete the witness section or notarial certificate as the document requires.

Documents that call for one or two witnesses are common for certain forms, letters and agreements. In those cases, our role is to serve as an impartial witness and sign where indicated. When a document includes a notarial certificate, the notary completes that certificate instead. The notary can’t choose the certificate wording for you or decide which type of witnessing your document needs, so please follow the document itself or the instructions from the organization that will receive it.

For the smoothest appointment, bring your complete document, don’t sign it ahead of time, and make sure every signer can attend with a valid photo ID. If your document needs more than one witness, let us know when you book so we can talk through the options in advance. If you have questions about the content of your document, please speak with an attorney.

What we can help with

  • Impartial witness for documents that require one
  • Identity verified with a valid photo ID
  • Witness section or notarial certificate completed as required
  • Acknowledgements and jurats when a certificate is needed
  • Office or mobile appointments

How it works

  1. Step 1: Check your document

Look for the witness or notary section and any instructions from the organization receiving it.

  2. Step 2: Book your visit

When you schedule, tell us how many signers there are and how many witnesses your document needs.

  3. Step 3: Verify identity

Each signer shows a current, valid government-issued photo ID.

  4. Step 4: Sign and complete

You sign while we watch, and we complete the witness section or notarial certificate as required.

What to bring

  • A current, valid government-issued photo ID for each signer
  • Your complete, unsigned document
  • Instructions from the receiving organization, if any
  • Details of how many witnesses the document requires

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between witnessing and notarizing?

A witness watches you sign and then signs the document as a witness. A notarization adds a notarial certificate, such as an acknowledgement or jurat, completed by a commissioned notary. Your document or the receiving party will tell you which one is needed.

My document needs two witnesses. Can you help?

Please let us know when you book, and we’ll talk through witness options in advance. If your attorney or the receiving party has specific requirements for witnesses, bring those instructions with you.

Can you tell me which certificate to use?

No. The notary can’t choose the certificate wording for you. Please follow the document itself, or ask the receiving party or an attorney.

Can I sign before I arrive?

Please don’t. The purpose of witnessing is that we watch you sign, so wait until you’re with us.
